Card Scanner

Identify a card from a photo on your phone or computer, check its value and add it to a collection or binder.

Last updated: 25 October 2026

The card Scanner identifies a card from a photo and shows its market value straight away. It recognises Pokémon, One Piece, Lorcana, Riftbound and Cyberpunk cards. The Scanner is free, but you need an account to scan.

Scanning on your phone

On a phone, the Scanner works in the mTCG app added to your home screen, because only there does it have full access to the camera. If you open the Scanner page in your phone's regular browser, you will see installation instructions instead of the photo area.

  1. Add mTCG to your home screen as described in the article mTCG on your phone.

  2. Open the app from your phone's screen and tap Scanner in the middle of the bottom bar.

  3. Point the camera at the card, line it up in the frame and tap the large round shutter button. Use the smaller button next to it to choose a photo from your gallery.

Scanning on a computer

On the Scanner page, drag a photo of the card onto the scan area, click the area to choose a file, or paste a photo with Ctrl+V. We accept JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 10 MB.

You can also scan a card with a webcam on the Webcam Scanner page, reached through the Scan with webcam link below the scan area. Click Turn on camera, choose a camera from the list, line the card up in the frame and click Identify card or press the space bar.

Scan result

Once the card is identified, you will see the card, the match confidence and its market value. If the Scanner got it wrong, pick the card from the other possible matches or click Search manually. If you already own the card in a collection or have it planned in a binder, we will point that out right away.

The Scanner may sometimes identify a card that is not in our catalogue yet. In that case we show its name and set code, but no price, because we are still filling in the database.

On a phone, add the card to a chosen collection with the Add to collection button in the result details. If you have it planned in one of your binders, tap I have it in the In your binders section and we will mark it as owned there. On a computer, click Details and price history, and you will find the Add to collection button in the card window.

Batch mode

On the Webcam Scanner page you can turn on Batch mode. You then scan cards one after another, and they gather in a batch list that holds up to 100 different cards. When you are done, click Add and choose whether the whole batch goes to a collection or to a binder.

  • When adding to a collection, you set one condition and one acquisition date for the whole batch. You can also enter a purchase price per card and a note, which we save with every card in the batch.

  • When adding to a binder, the cards take the first free slots, and we add new pages if needed.

Daily limit

On the PRO plan, the Scanner has no daily limit, subject to the fair use policy.

The limit resets at midnight Central European Time, and scans that fail to identify a card do not count towards it. The counter by the Scanner shows how many scans you have used today.

What happens to your photo

The photo is used only to identify the card, and before identification we strip metadata from the file, such as where the photo was taken. We do not store it unless you turn on the Scan photos consent. In that case we keep only the card, without the background, and use it to improve the Scanner.

You can withdraw your consent at any time in your account settings. We will then anonymise any previously saved photos; the details are in the Privacy Policy.

How to take a good photo

  • Photograph one card on a plain background.

  • Make sure the lighting is good and avoid glare on foil cards.

  • Hold the card still and close enough that it fills most of the photo.
